“Beach Fire” in Yellowstone National Park Nearly Contained

Fire bosses in Yellowstone National Park say the “Beach Fire” is nearly fully contained and has grown no larger than 520 acres.

With containment achieved around 95 percent of the fire’s perimeter, crews now will simply monitor the fire activity and respond as necessary, a release from the park said Friday.

Public Input Sought for the Bodie Island Alternative Transportation Study at Cape Hatteras National Seashore

Superintendent Mike Murray recently announced that the National Park Service is seeking public comment on alternative transportation strategies developed for the Bodie Island District at Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

Pruning the Parks: Verendrye National Monument (1917-1956)

Verendrye National Monument was delisted from the National Park System on July 30, 1956. The site was deemed to lack the historical significance on which the 1917 proclamation of the national monument was based.

Crow Flies High Butte (elev. 2,047 feet) is a conspicuous landform located on the left bank of the Missouri River in west-central North Dakota.

Abstract: 
On July 30, 1956, Verendrye National Monument was delisted from the National Park System and transferred to the state of North Dakota. Congress decided that the claim of historical significance on which the 1917 national monument proclamation had been based was spurious.
